The internet is a global network of computers. You need a simple network of computers to link one computer to another. A global network is a network of computers with hundreds of millions of

computers all over the world all linked to each other throughout the day.

In order to link to the whole world you need to have an Internet Access Account from one of your Internet Access Providers. Once you have an Internet Access Account all you need to do is to have a personal modem. All you need to do is to connect your phone line to the modem and dial a special Internet Access telephone number provided by your ISP. Once you are connected to the ISP you can access the Internet. When you are connected to the Internet you can send and receive digital files, sending emails and finding information to and from the internet within minutes. The faster the PC and internet connection is, the faster you can receive your data.

How to start up a website?

Lets say you want to build a website all you have to do is to have a domain name. A domain name is just like your business address.

Your Domain Name by analogy is the address of your website. Eg. www.nine.my, www.yahoo.com.my, www.google.com.

Once the domain has been registered and selected no one else can use your domain name. Anyone can check on mynic.com.my, nocser.net or some of the website provider to check on the availability of the domain. Some may use your internet business name as the domain name.

    What is a hosting

A hosting is your internet server which can own by you or someone else. The server can also host other websites owners as your website only takes up a small fraction of space in the server. Your website will be on the hard disk of  your hosting company and is connected to the internet 24 hours a day 7 days a week and 365 days a year.

Hosted or self hosted? Which to choose?

A self hosted will be more suitable for a serious blogger that have the aspiration for it to be used on a professional level whether a blog to be used as a business or corporate website, as a blog to build your own profile, to earn income from advertising. You can use a self hosting company such features as a one click install of http:// wordpress.com/signup  to make the initial setup much faster.

If you want a blog for fun, as an online diary for friends and you dont have time, money or patience to put anything complex then a hosted option might be good. They are instant and take about 5 to 10 minutes to setup.
